Holt Brothers Football Camp is a Resounding Success
Gibsonville, North Carolina may be a small town but it has produced some big talent. This is where The Holt Brothers, Torry and Terrence were born and raised. They were stars at local Eastern Guilford High School and became stand outs at North Carolina State University before becoming NFL athletes. The Holt Brothers love giving back to the residents of their hometown, especially the children. This is the reason that every year they hold a youth football camp and Edward G. Murrel Park, in the heart of Gibsonville, in order to help the kids of the community the best way they know how, by teaching them the fundamentals of football and the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. The camp is offered to the children of Gibsonville ages 6 years to 13 years old and teaches them everything from Quarterback skills to Receiving to Defensive Back skills showing them almost every facet of the game.
The 2008 camp was a huge success in that the turnout was one of the largest in the camp’s history. Meaning more children had the opportunity to learn from the best on how to play the game that the Holt Brothers love so much. While they are great players they could not have done this on their own though, realizing this they called upon their old high school coaches at Eastern Guilford who so graciously volunteered their time to come out and help out potential future Eastern Guilford Wildcat football players learn how to play the game the right way. The Holt Brothers also called upon some of their old North Carolina State teammates who came out to support their old friends showing the lasting effects of teamwork to the kids attending the camp. While it was hot the camp was great ending with a hard fought flag football game that ended up turning into a shoot-out overtime thriller leaving all the campers excited for next year and the upcoming season.
Another great thing was that it made people aware that Terrence had come home and would now be playing right up the road for the Carolina panthers this season, meaning that now his biggest fans would be able to see him in person and have one of their favorite sons playing for their favorite team. The campers were all given gift bags that were made to look like Terrence’s number 42 Panthers jersey so that they now know what to look for when they watch the games. In those bags they were given a football and official wristbands so they can look like the Holt Brothers while practicing what they learned from them. In addition to those they were also given a Holt Brothers youth Football camp T-Shirt and Hat that they will be able to keep forever as a souvenir from the day that they were able to hang out with and learn from two NFL stars.
The camp was not the only way that the Holt Brothers were able to give back though. They also outfitted the Gibsonville Parks and Recreation Department with top of the line athletic gear so that the kids would be able to play with the best. They also outfitted several of the athletic programs at their alma mater of Eastern Guilford High School including the football program which helped to lead them to what they have become today. By equipping both the Gibsonville Parks and Recreation Department and Eastern Guilford High School with the best athletic equipment possible the Holt Brothers are paving the way for more student athletes to become great players and in turn to follow in the footsteps of two of Gibsonville’s favorite sons, Torry and Terrence Holt, and become great leaders and role models. The Holt Brothers do more than just teach the basics of football by organizing this football camp, they inspire a sense of integrity and responsibility as well as foster a sense of community, because as they have shown time and time again they have not, nor will they ever forget where they come from and the people and organizations that helped to get them to where they are today. The camp shows that not only do the Holt Brothers care about their hometown but that the people in their hometown care about them and that is the main reason that it was such a success.
